Bronchiolitis

Sorry I have been away for a few days. My baby is sick, and he needed me. Monday morning, Bubba woke up with a cough. We were kind of expecting it since it had been about a week since he got over his last cold, and the doctor's told us that this was expected. He would get another cold. Which for him I guess involves coughing.
So he had a cough and a slight fever Monday. Gave him some Motrin, he seemed to be doing better. His voice was so hoarse! And I guess he thought it was cool, because he kept babbling to us, and then he would giggle.
Tuesday, his cough was worse, he was wheezing and he was more mopey, and just generally didn't feel good. Still had a fever, even after Motrin. We were getting kind of worried about him. I was sitting here holding him while he slept and just watched him. He was having a hard time breathing as parts of his stomach and chest were dipping in a little bit as he breathed. We finally decided to take him into the doctor's office that night. Luckily there is a pediatrics place open 24/7. So we went in about 9:00 at night. Waited to be seen by a doctor. We were worried, because his cough had never been this bad before. I mean, he would cough and cough and barely breathe in between, his face would just go red and he would lay down on whatever was closest to him.
So we get back into a room where a nurse takes his temperature (99.2 I believe) and weighs him (still 25 pounds). She put a thing onto his foot to get his oxygen levels in his body. It was 84%. So he wasn't getting the oxygen that he needed. The nurse showed us how to count his breaths. So we did that and it averaged at about 45 breaths a minute. Doctor wants to see it below 55. So we were OK there.
Doctor came in and listened to his breathing through the stethoscope and told us that he has Bronchiolitis. Now...what is this caused by? Some virus. The main virus is RSV. Dr told us we could spend more money to get another test done to say for sure if it was RSV, but that treatment was the same. I HATE this illness. My little brother Curtis had it when he was a baby and was hospitalized with it. I heard the diagnosis and I did my best not to cry.
They did a breathing treatment on him there in the office. Bubba HATED it! He screamed the whole time, until he couldn't scream anymore. That took 15 minutes, then we tested his oxygen again. It was 94%. So luckily it helped that. His wheezing wasn't bad anymore, and he seemed happier. So they sent us home with a prescription for Albuterol to take every 4-6 hours as needed for breathing. Went home after 3 hours, and just rested. Bubba was NOT sleeping very well. He would sleep for 10-15 minutes and then wake up coughing, or just wake up. Yesterday he was very mopey and still just trying to sleep. I think he took 6 short naps throughout the day. After only sleeping a couple of hours the night before.
Last night was probably the best sleep he has gotten. As I write this, he has been asleep for the last 2.5 hours, only waking up once or twice but going right back to sleep.
Bad thing is whenever the motrin wears off, if we aren't right on top of it (like when he's sleeping) his fever will spike up. This morning it was 103, yesterday morning it was 102. Here is what he looks like right now..

He has been sleeping in bed with us, so we can feel his breathing and we can help him whenever he needs it.
I feel AWFUL. Last night was the most sleep I have gotten since Sunday night, and it was just under 5 hours. I am still so scared for him. I count his breaths whenever I can to make sure they aren't going too high and that his meds are helping. His cough just tears my heart to pieces, and he has now learned "ow" he will cough and then look at me and go "oww" breaks my heart. Everyone says to count my blessings, and I am VERY thankful that he is NOT in the hospital yet. We still aren't free and clear on it, but he hasn't had to go in yet. He still struggles to breathe and you can tell when he is having a hard time, but I feel like all I can do is hold him. He has these sad little red eyes because he isn't getting enough sleep, and a sad little moan.
Anyway...this is long enough. So if you have wondered where I have been...that's where. Usually right in bed with that little guy trying to make him feel better, and not fall apart at the same time..

Friday Night Confessions

I have been thinking of a bunch of different confessions that I can put up here this week..so let's see what we've come up with, shall we?
  • I hate spiders. Even the thought of one nearby scares the snot out of me.
  • I swear. A lot. Not many people hear me, because most of it is said under my breath, but it's a habit Sam is trying to get me to break.
  • Along with that one, I have road rage somewhat. I apologize to anyone out there that I have called an idiot. I can't help it. I am usually nice...just not as nice in a car.
  • I haven't shaved my legs in about a week. And I can not stand it.
  • I have a secret crush on Johnny Depp, especially as a Pirate.
  • I talk to myself. (yeah..not going to explain that one)
  • I am obsessed with photography. Taking pictures, and editing them. I LOVE it, and could do it all day.
  • I don't like changing poopy diapers. I know, I know. I waited 6.5 years to be able to do that, but it doesn't mean I have to like it.
  • I want to be doing this right now...

Enjoy!

11 months old

This is a short post telling about Bubba and how he turned 11 months old yesterday! I CAN NOT BELIEVE IT! 1 more month and he turns 1 year old! I look at him, and he is still my baby, but I can't help but see my little baby growing into a little boy. It makes me happy and breaks my heart all at the same time. Here is what he enjoys..
  • He loves to walk. He walks all over the place. He doesn't crawl as much anymore. He can stand up in the middle of a room without holding on to anything and just take off walking.
  • He can crawl DOWN stairs now as well. So he is better at working those.
  • He loves mom and dad. He is definately a momma's boy. Whenever I leave the room, even if it is just to the bathroom, he cries for me and tries to follow me. When he is hurt, he will come to me, and when he is happy he will come to me.
  • He loves food! He is starting to get more picky with what he eats, but he LOVES mac n cheese. He also enjoys eggs, cheese, lasagna, toast, yogurt, and anything anyone else is eating. He is seriously a moocher. Whatever you are eating, he wants to try it.
  • He sleeps all night. Although usually doesn't go to sleep until midnight or later, but then he sleeps in until 11 or 12. I'm trying to decide which I would like more...
  • He had his first haircut, and loves letting me do his hair.
  • He LOVES pillows and blankets. Seriously, he will grab them off of the couch and just bury himself into them. It is SO cute! He also loves stuffed animals. He cuddles them and can't go to sleep without one.
  • His favorite movie is Madagascar. If you say Zebra, he will look at the TV and point.
  • He loves to tickle. And he will say "tickle tickle tickle" as he tries to tickle you.
  • He also knows what his bottle is and tries to say it.
  • He still loves baths.
  • He still has the ability to make me fall in love every time I look at him. :-)

That is Bubba at 11 months. There are probably more things. I know I need to get video of him walking on here, and also video of him tickling on here. Those are the next things on my list of getting of him. Hopefully I can this week. Now to find that video camera.... And of course a picture. Me and my baby. He has NO expression as we slide down the slide....

Bubba

Curtis and I went out today and did a little photo shoot of Bubba since it was fairly warm, and since we cut his hair, and we got him a cute outfit. All of these things BEGGED for a photo shoot. Haha. So here are my favorites. There are a lot, I tried to narrow them down...but I couldn't. So I asked my siblings for help narrowing them down...they couldn't. Lot of help they are. So you get all of them here. Enjoy!

Har Har Har...I'm SOOO funny!

"What's up?"

This one is showing him walking. He was so excited to see me sitting there that he started walking faster to get to me!
So fast in fact that he fell. He wasn't hurt when he fell, but he whined a little bit (proably because he was sick of it at this point) and just laid there with his head down (which he does whenever he is sad, hurt, upset, etc...) It was SO sad, but I couldn't resist taking the picture.
Awww...I just love him SO much! Now, which one should I blow up and hang on my wall? Any choices? Let me know which ones you think I should! Enjoy!

Light of my life...

I wanted to take a minute and say how much I LOVE being a mother. There are a lot of things going on in the world that just make me want to scream. But I look at my little guy, and my heart feels at peace. He is so sweet and innocent, and I can't believe that he is mine. I was reading a blog (click here) posted by my friend Michelle about a little girl who was diagnosed with cancer, and within 3 weeks of finding out, she passed away. She was Bubba's age. It made my heart break for them to have to go through that. And it made me hold my little one a little longer. Made me kiss him a few extra times (just a few ;-)), and just made me SO grateful that I have him in my life. I can't imagine my life without him, and it is sad that it takes reading something like that to really appreciate what I have in my life. I have 2 loves of my life, Sam and Bubba, and I would be no where without them! I mean, look at this face. How could you NOT love it!

These were taken the other day by my brother Curtis. He is an aspiring photographer as well and these ones just melted my heart.
Anyway, hold your loved ones a little longer, make sure that you tell them that you love them, and give them extra kisses. Because they deserve it. I love this little guy with ALL of my heart and I would do anything in the world for him. And I count my blessings, and thank the Lord every day that I have the chance to love him.

Friday Night Confessions

Thanks to my dear friend Carolyn I am going to try to do confessions. I think it might be fun, and it will start out simple at first, and then we might get into something. Muhahaha. Carolyn, I know I said I was going to do Thursday night confessions, and I might change it to that next week, but for now...they are Friday night confessions. Because I am too impatient to wait until next Thursday to start, and it's my blog so I can do what I want.
  • I love photography (this isn't really a confession...everyone knows it..)
  • I can't burp. I have tried and tried to learn how. I have had many teachers on this subject, but I just can't do it.
  • I hate being cold.
  • I hate semi-trucks. Whenever Sam is driving and we drive past one, I hold my breath and close my eyes. It's THAT bad. When I am driving, I will wait until all other cars have passed me (if it is 2 lanes) and then I will only pass on a straight stretch of road. If there are more than 2 lanes, I will get into the farthest one away from the semi and pass. I have been known to hyperventilate while passing semi-trucks. NOT a pretty sight...
  • I am scared of the dark.

Ok, I think I am going to end with those ones. I think 5 is a good number. I will try to keep this up every week, and I will think of things that I can confess. Haha. Wish me luck.
